Tijuana Airport has seen significant passenger growth in recent years, requiring an upgrade to baggage management. Their expansion added a new terminal space, but without an optimized baggage handling system, inefficiencies such as delayed luggage processing and increased manual workload could negatively impact operations. The client sought a robust, scalable, automated solution to enhance baggage logistics while minimizing operational disruptions.
As part of the expansion at Tijuana Airport, an advanced baggage handling system (BHS) was required to accommodate growing domestic and international passenger volumes and streamline operations. Actemium México proudly contributed to this transformation by delivering a cutting-edge electrical and controls design to automate baggage claim processes, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and scalability for the airport’s new facilities.
Actemium México developed and deployed a high-performance automation system tailored to the airport’s unique requirements. The electrical and controls design enabled the seamless integration of two domestic and two international baggage claim systems, ensuring reliable luggage processing at every stage. The system leveraged: Siemens G-120 technology, coupled with Siemens S7-1500 1517H controllers with redundancy hardware, ensuring high availability and operational continuity by Intelligent automation algorithms that optimize luggage flow and reduce bottlenecks and Scalable and future-proof architecture, allowing for further expansions without major disruptions.
Collaboration was paramount to this initiative. Actemium México worked closely with the client’s technical team to synchronize implementation, integrating advanced automation with minimal disruption to ongoing operations. Engineers, automation specialists, and airport personnel jointly contributed expertise to ensure successful and precise execution.
The commissioning and testing phase exceeded expectations, delivering timely deployment and superior reliability. The improved baggage handling system significantly, enhanced efficiency, and minimized potential disruptions—creating a more seamless travel experience. The success of this project underscores the value of modern automation in airport logistics.
Representatives from Tijuana Airport state, “I just wanted to share my appreciation for those last couple of days at TIJ. Dealing with the blockage at the airport was not easy for anyone. Kudos and thanks for your professionalism and effort to conclude the integration and go live with the system. Hope we can work together on future projects sooner rather than later.”
Modern baggage handling systems redefine airport efficiency by automating critical processes and improving passenger experience. This successful deployment highlights how automation, advanced control systems, and strategic collaboration create seamless travel operations.
